Essential New Delhi Tips

01
Book the Taj Early
The Taj Mahal is best at sunrise — arrive at opening time and you'll share it with far fewer tourists. Always pre-book online.
02
Dress Modestly at Monuments
Shoulders and knees should be covered at mosques, temples and many heritage sites. Carry a scarf as a precaution.
03
Bargain in Markets
Fixed prices only exist in shops with signs saying so. Everywhere else, friendly negotiation is expected — start at 40–50% of the asking price.
04
Delhi Metro is Brilliant
The Delhi Metro is clean, fast, air-conditioned and cheap — use it to avoid traffic wherever possible.
05
Carry Small Notes
Many street food stalls, auto rickshaws and small shops cannot break ₹500 or ₹2000 notes. Carry ₹10–100 notes.
06
Water & Food Safety
Eat at busy places with high turnover. Drink only bottled water. Street food cooked fresh and hot in front of you is generally safe.
